The trap is solidly built and simple to operate. I ordered two and one came somewhat damaged due to the shipper, the company was great about returning my email and discounting the purchase so I could buy a bit of rust proofing spray. Excellent customer service. I am not planning to deploy the trap continuously till about mid October pending some other work I have going. I do have high hopes for it's effectiveness based on other reviewers so let's see how it goes.

Product arrived as advertised. Set it up with some peanut butter on a slice of apple for bait and got a squirrel the first day. However the following day I set it up again and by night nothing had happened. From what I can tell, a squirrel got caught, but apparently only by its tail and ran off with the trap. My yard camera could see the trap was there barely around 11pm and by 4pm it was gone. We have yet to find it. :-( So beware, stake the trap to the ground!

The last couple years I had squirrels that were getting increasingly aggressive and destructive. They stripped out from my garden all my strawberries and tomatoes plus destroyed any container veggies on the deck. I even had to quit feeding hummingbirds because they were destroying that feeder too. One even started chewing through the stairs on my deck, though there was nothing to eat in that area. Got a couple with a pellet rifle but they kept sending reinforcements. I set this trap a couple days ago and thus far have caught 4 squirrels and a few chipmunks as well. It's a powerful trap, so you might want to keep the garden hose handy as chipmunks don't fare well in it. A smaller, slightly less powerful version would be great for chipmunks.

We've had just two of these for two weeks and my husband has already caught 12 with no bait. Amazing!

I absolutely LOVE this trap! It has effectively eliminated the squirrel population in our backyard orchard since we started using it about 2 and a half years ago. Any time I see a new squirrel in the yard I set the trap and it’s gone within a day or two at the most. Walnut pieces without shells have been the most successful bait for me. They can’t resist! I sealed up one end of the trap (I think they sell a cap now). Then I put a small handful of walnuts in the sealed end, past the trigger, and a few (no more than 3-4 walnuts) in the open end to entice them in. Then set the trigger. I set it as lightly as possible. Early morning hours just after dawn have been the most successful with our squirrels but I have caught them all times of day. I will often leave it out overnight to catch them first thing next morning but then you have to be prepared for possible unintended nocturnal captures. Rats are messy (did have to hose down the trap a couple of times after them) and the one opossum I accidentally caught was awful when waiting for trash day. Words cannot adequately describe the horror. Make sure the trap is on stable ground once you set it. If it rocks back and forth at all when they enter they will be spooked and may not go in, or the jarring may set it off before they’re inside. Hope this helps!

I have a pear tree which the squirrels stripped last year and did not leave me one piece of fruit. My trap arrived and I installed it last week. So far I have eliminated 6 squirrels and the tree is full of fruit. Can't wait for the pears to ripen so I may enjoy some this year.

My friends have had good luck catching squirrels with this trap. I thought I would try it for rats, since I surmised that rats were eating my tomatoes. As it turned out, I caught a Posum instead. Because this happened on the 4th of July, we named the day "Tomato Independence Day" !
